Pre-Load Opens November 12 — Use It
Rockstar confirmed that GTA 6 pre-loading starts at local midnight on November 12, 2026, one week before the November 19 launch. Pre-loading is the single most important thing you can do to be ready at launch. If you skip it and try to download on launch day, you will likely be waiting hours.
Tip 1 — Audit Your Storage Now
Rockstar has not confirmed the exact file size. Based on analyst estimates and the scale of the game, expect the download to be somewhere between 150 GB and 200 GB. That is a significant chunk of any SSD.
What to do this week:
- Check your free storage on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S right now
- Identify large games you have not touched recently
- Delete or move them to an external drive before November 12
- Do not wait until the night pre-loading opens — do it now
Getting caught with 30 GB free on November 12 is an easily avoidable problem.
Tip 2 — Pre-Load to Avoid Launch Day Server Congestion
Because GTA 6 has no disc — even physical copies contain only a download code — every single player on the planet will be downloading at the same time on launch day if they have not pre-loaded.
PSN and Xbox servers will be under enormous load on November 19. Players who have not pre-loaded will face:
- Slow download speeds due to server congestion
- Potential queue times
- Missing the first hours of launch
