Source transparency: All information on GTA 6 Vault is sourced from Rockstar's official trailers, press releases, and Take-Two investor communications. Sections that go beyond confirmed facts are clearly labelled as our own analysis.

About This Breakdown

Rockstar released Trailer 1 in December 2023 and Trailer 2 in May 2024. Everything in this article is based strictly on what is visible in those two officially released videos and Rockstar's accompanying press materials. We do not include information from leaks, rumours, or third-party sources — only what Rockstar has shown us directly.

Trailer 1 (December 2023) — What It Confirms

The first official GTA 6 trailer opened with a scene of Lucia in a prison setting, confirming her as the game's protagonist and establishing a key element of her backstory. Alongside Lucia, the trailer introduced a male character later confirmed as Jason — the two appear as criminal partners throughout the footage, evoking a Bonnie and Clyde dynamic.

The setting is unambiguously Florida. Rockstar's official press release confirmed this: "Set in the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond." Vice City — the Miami-inspired city from GTA: Vice City (2002) — returns in GTA 6, visible in the neon-lit urban shots. The trailer also shows swamplands, suburban areas, highways, and beaches, establishing a wide variety of environments within the single open world.

NPC crowd scenes stand out immediately. Trailer 1 shows pedestrian density and behavioural variety not previously seen in GTA — people recording events on phones, more natural reactions to events around them, and more varied ambient activity. These are trailer observations; exact implementation as gameplay mechanics has not been officially described.

Trailer 2 (May 2024) — Additional Details

Trailer 2 expanded the look at the open world considerably. More Leonida locations are shown — a wider range of Vice City architecture, rural roads, coastal environments, and interior spaces. The scale of the state becomes clearer across the trailer's runtime.

Lucia and Jason appear in more active scenarios: robberies, vehicle chases, and interactions with a wider cast of characters. The tone remains consistent with the criminal partnership first shown in Trailer 1.

Environmental detail is a focus in Trailer 2. Rainfall, wet road reflections, day and night cycles, and dense foliage in swamp and rural areas are all visible. These elements are observable in the footage; whether they represent a full dynamic weather system or curated set pieces for the trailers has not been officially stated by Rockstar.

What the Trailers Officially Confirm

Based on the two official trailers and Rockstar's press statement: GTA 6 is set in the fictional State of Leonida (inspired by Florida), including Vice City (inspired by Miami). Lucia is the game's protagonist — the first playable female character in a mainline GTA title. Jason is a second playable character. The game launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The open world includes diverse environments: urban, coastal, swamp, and rural.

What the Trailers Do Not Confirm

The trailers do not confirm: map size in any measurable form, GTA Online or multiplayer features, specific gameplay mechanics, story details beyond what's visible in the footage, PC version plans, or pricing and edition details.

This distinction matters when reading GTA 6 coverage elsewhere. Many specific claims circulating online are based on leaks or speculation rather than official sources. This article will be updated as Rockstar releases further official information.
