Source transparency: All information on GTA 6 Vault is sourced from Rockstar's official trailers, press releases, and Take-Two investor communications. Sections that go beyond confirmed facts are clearly labelled as our own analysis.

A Note on Sources

Everything in this article is drawn from Rockstar's two official trailers, official character biographies, and Rockstar's own press releases. We do not include information from leaks, insider reports, or fan theories — only what Rockstar has directly communicated.

Where the Story Begins

The very first image Rockstar chose to open GTA 6's first official trailer tells you a great deal about where the story starts: Lucia Caminos walking out of Leonida Penitentiary.

This single shot confirms several things simultaneously. Lucia has been incarcerated prior to the events of the game. Her release from prison is the opening moment of the narrative — not the middle, not a flashback. The story begins at the start of a new chapter in her life, with the weight of a criminal record already behind her.

Rockstar confirmed Lucia's full name in official character bios released alongside the trailers. She is the first playable female protagonist in a mainline Grand Theft Auto game — a detail Rockstar did not frame as incidental. The choice to open the game on her release, rather than on a heist or a chase, suggests her character arc is central to the story's emotional core.

Jason Duval — The Other Half

Introduced in Trailer 1 and given a full official biography, Jason Duval is GTA 6's second playable protagonist. His starting point could not be more different from Lucia's.

Rockstar's official character materials confirm that Jason is working as a debt collector for Brian Heder, a local drug runner based in the Florida Keys area of Leonida. In exchange, Brian lets Jason live rent-free on one of his properties. It is a small-time arrangement — Jason is not a kingpin or a crime boss at the outset. He is a man making ends meet in the margins of organised crime, entangled with someone else's operation.

Trailer 2 shows Jason in this role — collecting debts, navigating the Keys, and living within the constraints of Brian Heder's world. The early story appears to be grounded in this low-level criminal environment before events escalate.

The Bonnie and Clyde Dynamic

Rockstar's official framing of the relationship between Lucia and Jason is explicit: a Bonnie and Clyde-style criminal partnership. This description appeared in Rockstar's official character bios and was not subtle — they chose one of the most culturally loaded criminal partnership archetypes in American history to describe how Lucia and Jason operate together.

The trailers reflect this framing. Both characters are shown together in multiple sequences — in vehicles, in tense confrontations, and in quieter moments that imply a personal as well as professional bond. Whether the relationship is romantic has not been officially confirmed in explicit terms, but the Bonnie and Clyde reference carries obvious implications.

The partnership appears to be the spine of the narrative. GTA 6 is not structured around three strangers who occasionally share missions, as GTA 5 was. Lucia and Jason are a unit from the start.

Brian Heder — The First Antagonist

Brian Heder is the only named supporting character confirmed by Rockstar in official materials. His role is established through Jason's biography: he is a drug runner operating in Leonida, and Jason's early story runs through him.

What Heder's role becomes as the story escalates — whether he remains an employer, becomes an obstacle, or is discarded early — has not been confirmed. He is the entry point into the criminal world for Jason, and by extension a structural anchor for the early narrative.

The Setting as Story

Rockstar's official press release describing GTA 6's setting is worth reading as a narrative statement as much as a geographical one:

"Set in the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond."

The phrase "and beyond" is doing significant work. Vice City is the urban anchor — the Miami-inspired metropolis visible throughout both trailers. But the story does not stay within city limits. The Florida Keys-style coastal areas, the swamplands, the rural stretches of highway — these are not just scenery. They are the terrain through which Lucia and Jason move, and the social environment that shapes who they are.

Florida, as Rockstar has chosen to fictionalise it in Leonida, is a state defined by contrast: extreme wealth alongside deep poverty, tourist fantasy alongside grinding reality, cosmopolitan Vice City alongside rural isolation. The Bonnie and Clyde framing suggests Lucia and Jason are operating in the gap between those worlds.

A Contemporary Story

GTA 5 was released in 2013 and set in that era. GTA 6 is deliberately contemporary. Rockstar's trailers show a Leonida shaped by the present day — smartphones everywhere, people livestreaming crimes as they happen, influencer culture as a backdrop to the world. NPCs in official footage record incidents on their phones. The media satire at the heart of every GTA game has a new target in 2026: a world that documents itself constantly.

This is not incidental production design. The contemporary setting is part of the story's context. Lucia and Jason are committing crimes in a world where everyone has a camera, where virality is currency, and where the line between spectacle and consequence has never been thinner.

What Has Not Been Confirmed

Rockstar has not officially revealed:

  • The full plot of GTA 6 or how the story resolves
  • Whether protagonist switching works as freely as in GTA 5, or follows a more structured narrative
  • The full supporting cast beyond Brian Heder
  • The fate of any character
  • How many missions the game contains or how the story is structured act by act

This article will be updated as Rockstar releases further official information.
